How I make tile

Once completely dry, I carefully clean the edges of each tile and stack them for their first firing, the biscuit firing. This operation takes almost two days, including the time needed for the oven to cool sufficiently to allow safe opening.

After baking the biscuit, the tiles are ready for glazing. I apply two coats of base enamel, then decorate by hand. Finally, the tiles are placed on special racks and fired again at a slightly higher temperature to finalize the process. Once completed, they are checked for quality and ready to ship.

Not finding the ideal tile for my kitchen, I decided to make it myself and quickly fell in love with the process. What started as a simple research then transformed into a journey into ceramics, commerce and craftsmanship. My goal is to create durable tiles with beautiful designs, colors and details.

The tile making process is incredibly versatile and it all starts with a 10 kilo bag of clay. I use an extruder to form long, even strips of clay of ideal thickness. Each strip is cut into tiles using a special cookie cutter, then dried between plasterboard for one to two weeks, depending on the weather.
